Veteran and 2020 Service Dog recipient Derrick Meis, shares how receiving Goose impacted his life.
Derrick, a veteran and recipient of a Patriot PAWS service dog named Goose, has shared how his life has changed for the better with the help of his furry companion. Derrick’s life took a drastic turn when he underwent numerous surgeries, including 11 knee surgeries, back and shoulder surgeries, and even an amputation. These surgeries kept him bedridden for almost five years, making it impossible for him to contribute to his household. The situation left him feeling hopeless and depressed, and he struggled to find a way out.
Determined to do something about his situation, Derrick turned to volunteering at Patriot PAWS, a nonprofit organization that trains and provides service dogs to disabled American veterans. His work at the organization gave him a new purpose, and he enjoyed spending time with the adorable puppies. Even though it was hard work, it helped him forget about his problems and worries.
